| Aim: | The aim of this session is to acquire an understanding of what constitutes child abuse and how to action safeguarding concerns. |
| Background: | Safeguarding children is everyone’s business. The Department for Children, Schools & Families (DCSF) are clear in their message that ‘All those who come into contact with children and their families in their every day work, including practitioners who do not have a specific role in relation to safeguarding children, have a duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children’ (DfES 2006). This study session provides opportunities to acquire knowledge of the national standards and Trust’s governance requirements in relation to safeguarding children including incident reporting. |

1. Understand what constitutes child abuse (RCPCH (2006) Inter-collegiate report). 2. Know the range of physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect and sexual abuse (RCPCH 2006 Inter-collegiate report). 3. Know what to do when they are concerned a child is being abused (RCPCH 2006 Inter-collegiate report). |
