Time Management

Faculty: HCDU
Aim:

To develop individuals’ time management skills and knowledge by identifying where time is wasted and how to take appropriate steps to minimise the causes. In addition to introducing the concept of planning, prioritising and delegating workloads, to Heart of England NHS Foundation staff.

Background:

It is estimated poor time management skills cost businesses in the United Kingdom in excess of £60 billion per year in wasted time. This ‘wasted time’ or labour inefficiency can lead to wider problems such as inadequate staff supervision, decreased service provision, poor management planning, ineffective communication and reduced staff morale (Caunt 2006). To minimise these potentially detrimental outcomes, the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust has identified that staff may benefit from assistance to become skilled time management practitioners. During the lesson, the need for a sound underpinning theoretical knowledge and routine practice of good time management techniques are emphasised and demonstrated. Research indicates this in-turn can improve service quality, increase productivity and boost staff satisfaction (Treacy and Bird 2002). The Time Management course aims to support the core principles of the Heart of England NHS Foundation Trust, such as cherishing, excellence, working together, innovation for advancement and finding a way. These ideals will help enhance the care and service provided by the Trust.
