The Access, Placement and Experience teams manage clinical placements for learners across the hospital sites. There are two teams, the Practice Placement team and the Access, Placement and Experience Team.

The Practice Placement Team         

 We manage student nurse placements, our role includes:      

Working collaboratively with the SHA in the education, commissioning and workforce planning process to ensure maximum availability of high quality placements practice placements.

Maintaining and enhancing the quality of existing practice placements through close collaboration with Higher Education Partners adopting a combined approach to audit where appropriate.

Continually reviewing and seeking innovative ways to expand practice placements through close collaboration with key staff in Higher Education Institutions and with individuals who manage health and social care services across the Trust.

Maintain live databases of clinical placements, student activity and placement capacity and both mentors and sign off mentors.

The services provided include, for:

Students
We provide support for healthcare students in clinical practice and we facilitate a weekly student forum at BHH, Good Hope and Solihull sites. See the attached document for the Standards to Support Students who are Underachieving or Failing in Practice 

Mentors
As a team of experienced nurses, we offer support for mentors of students and run mentor updates and sign off mentor training on a regular basis on the three main sites.

Placements
Maintain and enhance quality of practice placement and monitor and manage student activity and capacity

HEI’s
Provide the link between the universities and the practice areas for both students, mentors and lecturers.

The Access, Placement and Experience Team   

We work with people wanting pre employment placement experience. Our  role includes:

• Developing, implementing and sustaining a strategic approach to partnership working with local further and education establishments within the wider local health economy.
• Co-ordinating the development of careers advice/ training and development opportunities for young people in the local health economy, with a particular focus on the workforce needs of HEFT.
• Continually reviewing and seeking innovative ways to expand pre employment placement opportunities within the organisation.
• Developing and maintaining a database of all placements.
• Developing the infrastructure within the organisation to provide the information, advice and guidance required for all placements ensuring that the appropriate checks are undertaken.
• Providing co-ordination of careers advice/ training and development opportunities for young people in the local community, with a particular focus on the future workforce needs of HEFT.
• Monitoring the effectiveness of placements and follow up students employment route to evaluate if work experience had any influence on job choice.
