Clinical Skills – Heart of England Foundation Trust

Heart of England Foundation Trust clinical skills facilities provide a simulated learning experience for low to medium fidelity courses. It is available to students and staff from a range of disciplines, wishing to integrate clinical knowledge and skills into training courses, in a safe and non-threatening environment. The facilities create the opportunity to develop innovative approaches to clinical skills training.

Birmingham Heartlands Hospital

Replicating a clinical ward environment this clinical skills facility has eight beds/five resusitaires with the opportunity to create different aspects of a clinical environment. Courses can utilise the whole facility or it can be divided into smaller clinical areas. Audiovisual equipment, including plasma screen, allows powerpoint/video interaction with trainees within the clinical skills environment.

Holding a ‘wet’ licence the centre hosts a number of courses in conjunction with external bodies and internal staff. The courses allow practitioners to have hands on experience of surgical skills/techniques using tissue specifically sourced for training.

Good Hope Hospital

A three bedded clinical skills ward and a separate clinical skills Lab provide a flexible approach for larger and smaller groups of trainees. Audiovisual equipment, including plasma screen, allows powerpoint/video interaction with trainees within the clinical skills environment.

Solihull Hospital

A clinical skills lab hosts clinical skills training for small groups of trainees. With worktop space and trolleys this facility is suitable for courses that require small group interaction. Hand washing facilities are available within the lab.
